Energy Recovery Units

MJC’s Energy Recovery Unit (ERU) is an energy recovery module that has multiple heat exchanger options, either fixed energy recovery heat exchangers or energy recovery wheels. Both options have either sensible or enthalpy energy recovery options.

Energy Recovery Unit

The ERU is designed to precondition outdoor air by heating or cooling the air while recovering up to 80 percent of the energy. The ERU is designed to be a standalone module or attached directly to rooftop units. Attaching the ERU to a rooftop unit allows it to accommodate more outdoor air quantities that are recommended by ASHRAE Standard 62. Because MJC’s ERU preconditions incoming air into the rooftop unit the required unit capacity may be reduced up to 50 percent. Because of this the cost of ERU typically is offset by the reduction in size of the rooftop unit.

Fixed Plate Energy Recovery Unit

Fixed Plate heat exchangers allow the airflow to be separated by thin plates, passing each other in cross-flow. No mixing of the two air streams takes place. Therefore, the transmission of dirt, odors, moisture, bacteria, etc. is impossible. Heat is transmitted from extract air to fresh air purely by conduction as a result of the temperature difference between the two air streams. The outside air is cooled or heated by the conduction of the plates as air passes thru the different air.

Sensible Plate Energy Recovery

MJC’s Sensible Plate heat exchangers feature unique folded connections and a sealing method that eliminates any contamination for up to 3″ w.g. pressure differentials. Besides being extremely leak proof, their highly optimized embossment and folded leading and trailing edges gives our sensible plate heat exchangers an outstanding rigidity able to resist pressure differentials up to 10″ w.g.

Enthalpy Plate Energy Recovery
